CMO – Discussion (Players and Other CMO Members)

This room is for general discussion among the players and other members of The CMO.

Consider this a CHAT ROOM. Feel free to share music tips or trivia as well as non-music subjects. It is a place to have the kind of chat for which our rehearsal time does not allow. Tell each other about family milestones, favourite recipes, hobbies, books, movies, something you want to sell, etc.

(There are no particular restrictions other than the usual expectations for chat room etiquette.)

Note: This is not a “live” chat.

UPDATE : Added the “Reply” option (i.e. arrow) so that related contributions will be grouped as a conversation thread responding to the original comment – as of January 20, 2023.

How to ADD a File when posting a Comment :

1.  Enter text into the COMMENTS box at the bottom of this page.  It can be just a period/dot (.) as long as the box is not empty.

  1. Hi, All:

Does anyone have any ideas on how to RECRUIT members for the orchestra?

At the Christmas concert, 8 players were hired at a cost of $3000 – give or take i.e. approximately the total ticket sales for that concert. (That’s not including the payments to the guest artists and the conductor/s.)

I think we have 8 Wednesday rehearsals until March 26th concert for any interested “newcomers” to join.

  2. Are you looking for MORE classical music in The Valley?

Our CMO members Rick Barker (Concertmaster/Violin), Barry Eggen (Trombone), and Shannon Goldsmith (Associate Conductor/French Horn) also play with The Fraser Valley Symphony.

The FVS is pleased to announce that the winners of this season’s “FVS Young Artist Solo Competition” will be in concert this Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium in Abbotsford.

See their website for further details and ticket information : https://www.fraservalleysymphony.org/concerts

    1. Fraser Valley Symphony . . .

I just returned from the FVS concert this afternoon, January 29th. Congratulations to Barry, Rick, and Shannon . . . and their colleagues. An EXCELLENT music event.

From my vantage point, 85% -90% filled in an auditorium which seats about 380. That’s over 300 in attendance. It can be done! :0)

  3. The REGISTRATION PAGE had been available through a Menu Tab. Applications then would be accepted/declined based upon his/her status with the CMO. This is how 25 of our current CMO members registered, and your ability to log in, view, and comment remains unchanged.

However, since THE HUB began on December 1, an additional 85 applications to register were received from individuals who have nothing to do with the orchestra (averaging 2+/day) – and each submission, manually, had to be “not approved.” These numbers likely would increase as our website traffic grows.

To eliminate the volume of such non-CMO applicants, the Registration Tab from the Menu has been removed from viewing by the general public/non-members.

NOTE: So . . . if any of the 7 current, non-registered, CMO members inquire, they still can join by “invitation” (i.e. contact Vince). The process of registration remains the same – using only their names and email addresses – but is done through individual invitation rather than by the previous website registration tab.

  4. MARKETING SURVEY/FEEDBACK

A new feature has been added to our website MENU.

Please encourage those who have attended our concerts to complete the survey. It only takes a few seconds and is valuable input when planning our advertising and promotions.

    Thanks,

  5. TRAFFIC – 2023

Only 11 days into the New Year and we have had 240 visitors.

(To be fair, some of these would be us and other repeat visitors. Even so, I think this is a good sign that our online presence is being noticed more than a year ago at this time.)

  6. Welcome Aboard, Sandra!

    See you tomorrow night. :0)

Update: First rehearsal has been moved from the 11th to the 18th.

  7. PHOTOS:

Has anyone got audience family/friend photos of us from the Christmas Concert to post on the Photo Gallery Page?

If so, please send to my email address. Thanks.
